deep ellum legends…

When I was in high school in the mid- to late 80’s, Deep Ellum was basically of conglomeration of live music venues, most of which appealed to the punk rockers.

Fifty years before that, Deep Ellum was a place where segregated African-Americans gathered to hear the blues.   On Canton Street, as you enter Deep Ellum from the Downtown West side, these banners commemorate some of the blues legends of the time.   Very impressive.  nice graphic design work on the banners.

  1. Nice! T-Bone Walker is my favorite blues artist of all time. They say he was the first to play the blues on an electric guitar. Great voice – very smooth, usually backed up by a horn section. Maybe check him out on Isohunt – The Complete Imperial Recordings 1950-1954 is a good set – this is his early stuff. Though your choices for him on Isohunt may be limited…
